80 Common Thyroid Symptoms

Common thyroid symptoms of this insidious disease run into the hundreds. There are so many that I’m not sure there will ever be a complete list. Why? Because the thyroid is implicated in every cell n the body. Adding to that, every single individual on this planet is unique which then gives us an endless supply of possible signs and symptoms of thyroid disease.

Below is a list of Thyroid Symptoms for both Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism. I hope it helps answer some questions for you.

WHY ARE THERE SO MANY THYROID SYMPTOMS?

Essentially – if you have strange things going on in your body and you know you have a thyroid problem – you can pretty much connect them. So to all those people that have ever asked me “I have …xyz…. are they thyroid symptoms?” YES! Yes, it is my love! But just in case you want a list to refer to, here is one for you. This is really good to actually print off and tick what's relevant to you and take it to the doctor with you because you tend to forget things when you get in there.

WHAT IF YOU HAVE TICKED BOTH LISTS OR ALL 3?

This is then an indicator you may be looking at Autoimmune Disease which is one of the main causes of thyroid disease. When you have an autoimmune disease, your immune system mistakenly attacks your thyroid, but not all the time. So because it isn’t always in attack mode (depending on your diet and lifestyle) your thyroid may swing between being high and low, which will alter your thyroid symptoms. So don’t be alarmed but it is a great way to show your doctor or health practitioner what is going on with you. I would advise you to keep the list on the kitchen bench for a week and keep looking at it and adding to it as you go along. Some thyroid symptoms only show up every now and again, so they are easily overlooked.

Please don’t get overwhelmed if you have ticked almost every box. You need a starting point. You need to know exactly where you are right now so that you can start to move forward in the right direction. Every 3 months take that list and have another go. It is a great way to see your progress as we tend to forget when we feel well, that “oh yeah – I don’t have headaches anymore” or “Oh I hadn’t realized that I don’t cry all the time anymore” (that time will come I promise).

So get your list handy and start ticking. It’s the first step in your journey!
